Court Dismisses BlackBerry’s Lawsuit, with Prejudice, Against Kik

Over the course of the two-year lawsuit, Kik has continued to grow – now at 90 million registered users and counting

WATERLOO, Ontario – (October 8, 2013) – Today Kik Interactive, creators of the fastest, simplest and most personal way to communicate on mobile, announces that BlackBerry’s lawsuit was dismissed by the court with prejudice. Terms of the settlement are not being disclosed, but this terminates any further legal action between the parties on these claims.

Over the past two years, Kik has grown its user base tremendously and brought continued innovation to the app at a rapid pace. The messenger now has 90 million registered users, with over 200,000 new people joining the Kik community every day. In November 2012, Kik added an HTML5 platform called Cards, which integrates Web-based app experiences into the messenger’s native environment and allows friends to seamlessly share content. The company is continuing its ongoing focus on developing and monetizing its HTML5 Cards platform, and delivering the best user experience possible.

“It’s great to finally close this chapter in Kik’s company history and we’re pleased to put the BlackBerry lawsuit to rest,” said Ted Livingston, CEO of Kik. “We’re extremely happy with what Kik has become over the past several years, and couldn’t be more excited to continue building a killer product, growing our HTML5 platform and supporting our ever-expanding user base. When the lawsuit first happened it was personally and professionally tough, but it gave us an opportunity to regroup and build what we believe is the best messenger on mobile. We’ve grown our user base from around 2M in 2010 to over 90M today, and we believe this is just the beginning for us.”
