Farmington, NM - (NewMediaWire) - October 2, 2013 - Riverview Golf Course,http://www.riverviewgolfnm.com/, located near Farmington, NM, is hosting the annual “7 2 11 Will Golf for Food Classic,” benefiting the Lord’s Pantry. Golfers will compete at one of the most breathtaking and challenging courses in the Southwest U.S., while helping those in need at the same time.

All proceeds from the tournament go to the Lord’s Pantry, a San Juan County, NM non-profit organization that distributes food, clothing, and other necessities to over 300 local families each month. The Lord’s Pantry, a 2010 recipient of the San Juan Safe Communities Initiative Community Change Agent Award, has been assisting people in need for the past 11 years.  The Lord’s Pantry distributes, as much as, four tons of food each month.

John McCaleb, who leads The Lord’s Pantry, feels now is a great time to help. “With the approach of winter, and the continual economic turndown, even more people in San Juan County may be forced to seek help,” said McCaleb.  “Often families must choose between buying food or paying their heat and electric bills. “This year’s golf tournament enables local residents to enjoy an amazing round of golf while helping out the needy.”

The “7 2 11 Will Golf for Food Classic” begins October 12th at 9:00 AM with two 12 gauge shotguns. The 18 hole 2-person scramble is only $80 per golfer and includes green fees, range balls, a breakfast burrito, lunch, a tournament cap, commemorative balls and towels, and prizes for each participant. This year’s tournament also has a nine hole 2-person putting scramble that immediately follows the event for $10.00 a player.  There is also a $1,000 purse at stake, based on 50 teams entered.
