No this is not a joke. Do you want to hack a big company? Really – yes this is serious. Do you want to hack a big company? Do you want a real hacker to even walk you through how to do it?

The IT Security Consulting/Training firm Strategic Security has created an environment that mimics a medium sized financial institution with the same types of servers, workstations, and applications that are commonly found in a real company.

This environment was created for the express purpose of allowing IT and IT Security Professional the chance to learn and practice “ethical hacking” also known as “penetration testing” or pentesting for short.

“There are a lot tutorials, books, courses, and even certifications for ethical hacking, but there are very few places that will allow you to attack a real infrastructure. All of the resources that people commonly use to learn this stuff are designed to teach you simple hacking concepts against one intentionally vulnerable target. That’s great for learning a particular hacking concept, but it’s horrible for people that are or want to become IT Security Professionals. At the end of the day you have to try this stuff out in a live environment so you can really understand how attacks work with firewalls, anti-virus, and intrusion detection systems in the environment. That’s the only way you are going to learn how this stuff really works and more importantly how to defend against it,” says Strategic Security CEO/Founder Joe McCray.

Joe McCray has been teaching ethical hacking for several years and is a winner of the EC-Council Instructor of the Year award. He’s been in the industry for over 10 years and says that he and his peers didn’t have the luxury of an environment like this when they were learning.

“There were very few resources when I started. My peers in the industry and I learned this stuff by going to a lot a bad websites, reading a lot of incomplete articles and books, building servers in our basements so we could hack them, and some of us even did illegal stuff to learn it. I built this environment so people don’t have to go through what I went through,” says Joe.
