Universal Music Launches The Udiscover Music Discovery Application On Spotify

WEBWIRE

LONDON -- Universal Music, the world’s leading music company, has today launched the uDiscover Spotify application. uDiscover is Universal Music’s new multi-faceted global curation and discovery initiative and the new app is a unique and engaging way of exploring all of the artists and music available on Spotify.

The new Spotify app draws on uDiscover’s extensive new library of content to create bespoke listening experiences. These connect both familiar and new music with deep exploration by artist, genre and other themes through a number of unique resources and features that are constantly being updated:

• uDiscover is building a treasure trove of exclusive editorial features on some of the most influential musicians in history and a multitude of genres and themes written by leading industry tastemakers including never before seen content from Universal Music’s extensive archives. Users can explore ‘magazine style’ editorial to discover artist discographies and connections or use uDiscover to create custom playlists.
• Unlike other discovery apps uDiscover builds dynamic playlists based around Spotify users’ favourite artists and listening history.
• The uDiscover app draws from the deep collection of curated playlists that have been created by the uDiscover team.

This combination allows the uDiscover app to utilise the best mix of algorithmic recommendations and expert knowledge to create the most engaging curated Spotify playlists which can be saved for future use. Whether the listener chooses to actively select tracks from options presented by uDiscover or leave the app to work by itself, the playlists will be different every time. Listeners can shape and control their journey every step of the way or just sit back and let uDiscover do the work.

Geoff Smith, Head of Digital for Universal Strategic Marketing, said: “We’re constantly exploring new ways to encourage music discovery across our vast range of incredible artists and their catalogues. The uDiscover app is a fascinating way to learn more about artists and their connections with other artists at a track or album level in a visually striking environment. It enables users to create limitless dynamic playlists seeded by their own favourite artists, while each new recommended track acts as a step in a playlist journey delivering a unique and informative discovery experience.”

uDiscover (www.udiscovermusic.com) is a global initiative to give fans new ways to explore and be immersed in Universal Music’s catalogue of legendary artists, albums and songs. Further uDiscover applications and localised content will be unveiled in the coming months. The new uDiscover Spotify app is available at: http://open.spotify.com/app/udiscover.
