The Spanish college-style brand plans to open 20 shops in the country.

After its recent openings in London and Paris, El Ganso has just announced its intention to extend into Mexico. To do so, it has set up Sociedad Acturus México with the Javier Sordo Madaleno Group, which owns some of the country’s most exclusive malls. This joint venture, in which each partner has a 50% stake, will be instrumental in El Ganso’s Mexican rollout.

The brand will be opening two shops in Mexico this autumn, one in the Antara mall in Mexico City and another in Querétaro. The plan is to reach 20 shops in the Mexican market over the next four years.

Founded in 2004 in Madrid by brothers Álvaro and Clemente Cebrián, El Ganso went global in 2011, opening its first shop in Paris, on Rue de Rosiers. In the same year, it arrived in Chile and Portugal. Today it has 55 points of sale, 17 of which are shop-in-shops in branches of El Corte Inglés department store. Its strongest markets are France, where it currently has four shops, and London with two. It also has its sights set on Germany and northern Europe.

In July 2013, El Ganso had increased sales 46% compared to the same period in 2012. The company expects to close the financial year at around €40 mill. El Ganso produces more than 150,000 pairs of shoes and 120,000 garments a year, offering a smart but fun total look for men, women and kids.
