American Red Cross names SAS blood drive sponsor of the year

CARY, NC - The Triangle Area Chapter of the American Red Cross has named Cary-based SAS blood drive sponsor of the year.

“Over the years, SAS has earned the title of the #1 business sponsor in the Durham service area which covers 14 counties around the Triangle,” stated Barry Porter, Regional Executive Director, American Red Cross. “Over the past fiscal year, SAS sponsored eight blood drives which collected 623 units of life-giving blood. Because each unit can be separated and transfused into three patients, SAS employees have helped save nearly 2,500 lives this past year.”

At its 96th annual dinner on June 27, the chapter recognized SAS Medical Labs Supervisor Camille West and SAS Health Care Center Medical Technologist Carol Conrad for their outstanding organization and implementation of these successful blood drives and for their integral part in saving lives.

“It’s humbling to think of the lives saved with just one pint of blood—and by taking only about an hour of a donor’s day. Each blood drive gives SAS employees the chance to be true life-savers,” said West.
