Eurosport once again hosts live event at 2013 Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity

The fiercely contested Beach Soccer World Cup returns for a fourth time, bringing sporting passion to the 2013 Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity next week.

Teams from five continents will compete in this year’s truly international edition of the Eurosport sponsored tournament.

Nigeria is making its tournament debut, ensuring Africa is represented alongside teams from Asia, Europe, North America and South America.

The Nigerians face a difficult first round, however, facing last year’s winners Denmark in a group also featuring Japan and Portugal. Denmark beat Brazil in the 2012 final to claim the title and will be hoping to repeat the success again this year.

Meanwhile, Brazil will be seeking to reclaim its 2011 title but face a tough European-flavoured group featuring 2010 winners The Netherlands alongside Sweden and the UK.

Elsewhere, old rivals clash in Group 3, where USA faces Russia. In Group 2 Argentina, Columbia and Ecuador will compete for South American bragging rights.

Heather Bowler, Global Director of Communications for Eurosport said: “The Beach Soccer World Cup goes from strength to strength and we are delighted to welcome back a team representing Africa, through debutants Nigeria. The fact five continents are represented demonstrates the diversity of delegates attending Cannes Lions and the popularity of the tournament. Eurosport is delighted to continue hosting this event, which is now an annual fixture at the Festival"

The Macé Plage, adjacent to the Palais des Festivals, will again be the venue with large crowds expected to enjoy the matches and cheer on the teams. Delegates can follow all the latest news on the tournament via the Cannes Lions Twitter feed, @CannesLions_2013 which will be displayed on screens throughout the event.

The tournament will be played on Tuesday 18th June and Wednesday 19th June, with the group games played between 9am and 6pm on Tuesday. On Wednesday the group winners and runners-up will progress to the quarter-finals ahead of the semi-finals and the prestigious Beach Soccer World Cup Final, which will take place at 14:30 CET.

The winning team in the Beach Soccer World Cup will be awarded their trophy at the Press, Design and Cyber Lions Awards Ceremony on Wednesday 19 June.

The Beach Soccer World Cup groups for 2013 are:

Group 1: Denmark - Nigeria - Japan - Portugal

Group 2: Argentina - Ecuador - Columbia - Rest of the World

Group 3: Estonia - Mexico - Russia - United States

Group 4: Brazil - Netherlands - Sweden - UK
