An East Midlands woman has received £5,000 dental compensation after a botched root canal treatment (RCT) resulted in the loss of a tooth.

She was awarded the figure in an out of court settlement, thanks to assistance of specialist dental solicitors, the Dental Law Partnership, the leading UK legal service for dental complaints.

While the client had visited the dentist in question on a number of occasions, his lack of skill ultimately lead to the incident. In June 2011, she had seen her dentist to complain about pain and discomfort and it was discovered that one of her fillings was causing disturbance to the nerve in that tooth. The dentist recommended a root canal treatment or the extraction of the tooth, because she had wanted to keep the tooth she opted for the root canal, which was then carried out.

Unfortunately after visiting a new and different dentist just a month later because of continued pain, she discovered that the original dentist had perforated the root of her tooth when carrying out the procedure. As a result, the client had to have her tooth extracted.

The woman approached the Dental Law Partnership to pursue dental compensation since the dentist’s lack of skill when carrying out a routine procedure resulted in the loss of the tooth. In addition, she has since had to undergo avoidable remedial treatment, including the provision of an implant to fill the gap in her teeth.

The defendant denied dental malpractice, but the expert dental lawyers at the Dental Law Partnership were able to secure £5,000 dental compensation for their client.

Speaking after the settlement, the woman said: “I am so grateful to DLP that I now have the funds to fix the mistakes my dentist has made”.
