A new survey carried out by Parcel2Go has suggested that consumers are becoming increasingly confident about buying products and services using mobile phones and tablets.

More than 100 people responded to the snap poll run through the Bolton-based parcel delivery specialist’s Twitter account, with 68 per cent saying they had used a mobile device such as a smartphone or an iPad to make a purchase over the internet. Perhaps unsurprisingly, major online marketplaces including eBay and Amazon were cited by a significant number of people.

Just under a third of respondents said they had not made online purchases using a mobile. The main reasons given were concerns relating to security and giving out payment details over a mobile connection.

Businesses across the world are taking steps to make the process of buying through mobile devices easier and more secure than ever before. Parcel2Go launched its own mobile site in 2011 in response to demand from individuals and business customers who wanted a simple, fast and effective way to organise deliveries with Parcel2Go.com couriers while on the move. The site is located at m.parcel2go.com and allows customers to get a quick quote, place an order or use Parcel2Go’s tracking feature to discover where in the world their parcel currently is.

Richard Mercer, marketing director at Parcel2Go, said: "These stats show just how important mobile sites and apps have become to consumers. The launch of our dedicated mobile site almost two years ago has proved to be a huge success and a tool that many of our customers have come to rely on, whether they’re tracking a package or ordering a Parcel2Go international courier service.

“Further growth in this area is inevitable as mobile internet connection speeds improve and we’ll be working to make our customers’ mobile experience quicker and smoother than ever before.”
