Workers within the Norwegian oil industry have the second to highest average income in the world, according to an income survey by Hays Oil & Gas, a leading international recruitment consultancy.

Hays Oil & Gas explained that the reasons for Norway’s high placement is due to the country having limited access to qualified workforce combined with a high demand. This results in very high salaries with an average yearly income of 866,750NOK, 75 percent higher than the global average.

According to a press release by Hays Oil & Gas, record-breaking levels of investments in the oil industry have increased its demand. This, combined with a lack of qualified labour, has resulted in a rise of wages.

Last year, the average Norwegian oil workers’ income passed the one million mark, making Norwegian oil earnings the highest in the world during 2012.

Statistics for the income survey are based on the salary information of 25,000 oil workers across the world.
