Giant box with screens sets tone for new West Haymarket development showcasing art, seasonal touches, sports events or highlights and even movies on select nights

Lincoln, NE, – Panasonic Eco Solutions North America (PESNA) today announced that it has been chosen to install the new outdoor LED video display, “The Cube,” as part of a downtown revitalization project for the West Haymarket development in Lincoln, Nebraska. The installation for The Cube display will include a north and west facing edifice, for a combined size of nearly 750 square feet, and is expected to be completed by the time the development opens in August.

“Panasonic will provide its expertise to help us to set the tone for the district with The Cube and offer a versatile, outdoor display for artistic expression as well as a way to engage and interact with the visitors,” said Brett West, Director of Development for WRK/TDP who is the development manager of the project “We believe that the West Haymarket development and The Cube will become one of the iconic and recognizable spots for Lincoln.”

The West Haymarket development called Canopy Street (www.canopyst.com) is planned as an entertainment and living district, with combined retail and housing conveniently located together. Part of the development will feature an open courtyard area, known as “The Railyard,” and will be surrounded with retail and restaurant space on three sides. The Railyard will be used for various public events, including seasonal festivals, sports parties and movie nights and The Cube is expected to play a central role in showcasing art, seasonal touches, sports events and highlights and even movies on select nights.

For The Cube, Panasonic will use two waterproof 16mm pixel pitch Surface Mount Display (SMD) LEDs. The first display on the north facing structure will be approximately 35 feet long by 15 feet high. The display on the adjacent west facing structure will be about 14 feet long by 15 feet high. Both outdoor LED boards will be used for video images, feeds and digital advertising. In addition to the video displays, Panasonic will also provide a control system, including both hardware and software. The controller will be HDTV compatible and able to segment the screen into multiple independently addressable zones capable of displaying schedules and real-time content such as still images, animations and live video.

“The Cube’s centralized location within the combined retail and housing space truly enhances the overall experience with valuable visitor engagements including public service announcements, digital advertising and group viewings,” said Richard Ballard, Vice President of Sales for Panasonic. “We are thrilled to be a part of the revitalization project.”
