George Webb To Give Away Free Hamburgers When Brew Crew Wins 12 Straight

WEBWIRE

George Webb Restaurants is still predicting a 12 game winning streak for the Milwaukee Brew Crew. It happened in 1987 and things are heating up for a repeat this week! When that twelfth win happens George Webb will prepare for the free burger day. Details on “the payoff” date and times will be released Monday morning.

When the Brewers won 12 in a row in April of 1987, George Webb restaurants handed out nearly 170,000 free burgers at their locations throughtout Wisconsin. “We don’t know how many burgers we’ll be giving away, but we know we’ll be ready,” stated Ryan Stamm, George Webb’s Vice President and General Manager. Stamm has suppliers ready to deliver all the burgers, buns and condiments they expect to need on “the payoff” day. Many of the current restaurant owners participated in the 1987 give-away — even if they were in grade school. So they know the drill and are excited that it may happen again soon.

A few facts about the 1987 burger celebration:

  • more than 25,000 pounds of ground beef and 173,000 hamburger buns were ordered
  • 573 gallons of catsup and 286 gallons of brown mustard were used
  • 2,868 pounds of onions and 367,180 slices of pickles topped the burgers
  • an average of 300 customers were served per hour
  • approximately 50 hamburgers were handed out every 10 minutes at each location

About the George Webb Prediction:
The George Webb  prediction actually goes back to the 1940s when Webb predicted 17 consecutive wins for the Brewer teams of the American Association. When the Braves moved to Milwaukee from Boston in 1953, a prediction of 12 wins in a row was painted on the  Webb restaurant walls and advertised in the newspaper.
