Rebtel Gives Apps a New Voice with Public SDK Launch for iOS and Android Developers

Free Voice Platform launches out of beta with dating app Maybe, sets sights on helping developers better connect millions of mobile customers around the globe

WEBWIRE

San Francisco & Stockholm – Rebtel, the world’s largest mobile VoIP company after Skype, today announced the public launch of its new SDK for iOS and Android developers, giving companies in a wide range of categories a powerful yet simple tool to integrate voice communication capabilities into any app. Now, any developer can integrate the Rebtel Voice Platform in their app for free by visiting developer.rebtel.com.

During its initial beta period, Rebtel signed up more than 20 developer partners, including TGTHR, Agile Dimension, eXeltior, as well as MobisleApps, which has just integrated Rebtel voice into a new version of its dating app Maybe, now available in iTunes and Google Play.

With millions of customers turning to OTT services to connect with one another outside of their traditional mobile calling plans, developers of apps in categories ranging from social networking to gaming, messaging, enterprise and dating now have an effective tool to help attract and retain customers.

“Adding free voice functionality is a critical component for our dating app, and we’ve been extremely impressed by both the call quality and the ease of integration. We think this will be a huge value add for our users who want to be able to talk with one another anonymously and for free, while giving us a valuable tool to acquire new customers and drive user engagement,” MobisleApps CEO Fredrik Olofsson said.

"Rebtel’s SDK allows us to enhance the unbeatable experience we offer for our users by giving them the ability to connect with one another in real-time through high-quality voice calling that is free of long distance and carrier charges,” TGTHR Founder Rhys Howell said, who is planning on launching their social networking app in May.

After extensive testing during the Voice Platform’s private beta launch in December 2012, Rebtel has added new features that include support for iOS background mode, which makes the call setup faster and more reliable, new audio playback controls for playing ringtones and other sounds, and improved voice quality.

Any developer interested in Rebtel’s SDK can take advantage of a rich set of features that includes:

  • Free SDK tool for any developer of any size
  • Synchronous free app to app calling over Wi-Fi or 3G
  • Crystal-clear quality with HD Voice technology based on bandwidth adaptable iSAC codec
  • All signaling and codec handling wrapped into one easy package, with no back-end support or infrastructure commitment needed

“Over the past few months we’ve seen incredible interest in voice from the global developer community, specifically in markets such as India, China, Europe and the U.S.,” Rebtel CEO Andreas Bernström said. “We’re excited by the launch of our first live voice integration and see a tremendous opportunity to connect millions of new customers around the world who are interested in a free voice calling from their favorite smartphone apps.”
