The Kuga’s range of engines includes a 1.6-litre EcoBoost petrol, which is capable of combined fuel economy at 42.8 MPG. This statistic is impressive for a vehicle of the Kuga’s size, and even more appealing is the 2.0-litre TDI diesel’s low CO2 emissions, from 139g/km. The more powerful engines, including the 161bhp diesel unit, are capable of 0-60mph in less than 10 seconds, so power is certainly not compromised, even if it doesn’t quite live up to the car’s excellent driver assistance features. 
 
Whether it’s truly the smartest SUV around is questionable, but there’s no doubt that the Kuga is a successful, versatile vehicle. With a wealth of technology built into the cabin, and a selection of efficient engines, the Kuga has great appeal as a smart, safe and spacious family car.
