(SAN MATEO, CA) The San Mateo County Fair has added The Whispers to the FREE CONCERT series. They will join other headliners: Starship featuring Mickey Thomas, Three Dog Night, Tower of Power, Morris Day and the Time, Queen Nation and Aerorocks.

The Whispers will perform on opening night, Saturday, June 8th, at the San Mateo County Fair.  One of R&Bs most beloved and consistently popular vocal groups, they began their legendary career in 1963, producing a string of hits over the last five decades: “And the Beat Goes On,” “Rock Steady,” “A Song For Donny,” and “Lady”. Their music has been heard on movie sound tracks: “Waiting To Exhale,” “Diary of A Mad Black Woman,” “Madea’s Family Reunion,” and Jay Leno’s “Collision Course.”

They are arguably the most celebrated R&B balladeers of their generation and still make women swoon with the silky yet forceful tenors of twins Walter and Scotty. In 2006, an independently produced CD, “For Your Ears Only” sold out at retailers across the nation and was lauded by many as one of the best CDs of the year and decade.

“We are bringing many new acts to this year’s Fair and we have two performances for Tower of Power. With The Whispers, Three Dog Night, Starship Featuring Mickey Thomas, Morris Day & The Time, and Aerorocks and Queen Nation, we anticipate new audiences from the peninsula and beyond,” said Chris Carpenter, San Mateo Event Center’s General Manager.
