Designer Natasha Varma’s fashion dreams have finally come true, as she has just been appointed head designer at online fashion retailer Missguided.

Not only have Natasha’s designs been featured on TV, but they have also been worn by none other than pop goddess Nicoles Scherzinger. In an exclusive interview, she has revealed just what it’s like working for one of the UK’s most successful online clothing stores, which is now bringing its brand of fierce fashion to Ireland.

The majority of Natasha’s inspiration comes from China, where she discovers all kinds of cool prints, styles and fabrics. Her most recent and most innovative ideas have been transformed into the brand new Missguided Spring/Summer 13 collection, which includes Missguided.eu maxi dresses, ripped denim hotpants and slouchy logo vests that are perfect for warmer weather.

Natasha’s role at Missguided is one many girls would die for, so how did she put her fashion dream into practice and start designing women’s clothes from Missguided?

She said: “I started right at the bottom of the industry and worked my way up, but I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way!”

But she explained it’s something she couldn’t do alone, as having the right team around her is essential if she is going to do her best work. She said: “Positivity, creativity and successful people provide stimulation that push me in the right direction and enable me to design a new fashion piece every single day.”

Missguided asked what the statement item was for this season and Natasha said: “It’s hard to pinpoint in an array of fierce items, but if I had to offer a statement piece for the Spring/Summer season the Elian high waisted ripped jeans are the item. Not only are they edgy but they also show off that spring/summer glow (even if it’s fake).”

Natasha also revealed her top picks for the coming season: “Overloaded prints will undoubtedly put people at the forefront of fashion this season, not forgetting neon and bright colours that are also essential to brighten up that tired winter wardrobe. Opposites attract this season, with high contrast monochromatic tones prominent on the catwalk; dig out those LBDs, striped tops, white blouses and black leather jackets.

“This season also sees the ombre trend take storm, whether its hair, nails, lips or clothes. This look is sure to make people look stylish in spring. Leatherette is also dominant, whether it is some edgy hot pants, or some hot to trot leather pants.”
