DENVER, CO — Denver Nuggets Coach and two-time cancer survivor George Karl will headline the sixth annual Colorado Culture of Health Conference on April 10, 2013. Held at the Denver Marriott City Center (1701 California St.), the all-day conference will examine the impact of workforce wellness programs and offer strategies for building effective initiatives that attract strong employee participation. Karl, an advocate of health promotion and integrated health strategies, works closely with the Cancer Care Initiative at Swedish Medical Center to help provide information and assistance for cancer patients and their families. He is also involved with the American Cancer Society, the Cancer League of Colorado and St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.

Karl is one of several renowned speakers addressing attendees of the conference. Other keynote speakers include: James O. Hill, Ph.D., Professor of Pediatrics and Medicine at the University of Colorado School of Medicine and Executive Director of the Anschutz Health and Wellness Center; Jeff Tetrick, Chief Financial Officer of Pinnacol Assurance; and Adam Bosworth, Founder and Chief Technology Officer for Keas, a technology company that has remarkable success engaging employees in wellness using advanced on-line game techniques.

The conference will also include breakout sessions covering everything from wellness program outcomes to the legal implications of creating a workplace wellness program. With the costs of covering workers continuing to rise, wellness initiatives, which can help improve employee health and reduce costs in the process, are a hot topic. Fifty-seven percent of Colorado employers surveyed recently by the Mountain States Employers Council said they offered wellness programs for their workers.

“Colorado businesses are hungry for information about what incentives will drive employee engagement and lead to real, measurable results,” said Donna Marshall, founder and executive director of the Colorado Business Group on Health, an organizer of the conference, which will also feature a variety of health care-industry exhibitors.

This year’s platinum sponsor is Cigna and hosting the conference is Mountain States Employers Council, Colorado Business Group on Health, 9Health Fair, LiveWell Colorado, Colorado Health Institute, Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, American Heart Association, American Diabetes Association, American Cancer Association, Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce and the Colorado School of Public Health.
