Rolls-Royce congratulates Airbus on delivery of 100th A380

Rolls-Royce, the global power systems company, today congratulated Airbus on the delivery of its 100th A380 aircraft. The aircraft, delivered to Malaysia Airlines, is powered by Trent 900 engines.

Eric Schulz, President, Rolls-Royce Civil Large Engines, said: “We are proud to power the 100th A380, just as we powered the very first A380 to enter service just over five years ago, and congratulate Airbus on reaching this milestone. Building on in-service experience that now totals two million operating hours, and by flowing back technology from other members of the Trent engine family, Rolls-Royce has reduced Trent 900 fuel burn and an additional “enhanced performance” package will reduce it further.

The Trent 900 is the engine of choice for the A380, having been selected by 11 out of 16 customers. The engine powered the A380 into service for the first time with Singapore Airlines in 2007 and is currently in service with six airlines.

Malaysia Airlines’ first A380 entered into service in July 2012 and the airline has ordered six A380 aircraft in total, all with Trent 900 engines.

4. Rolls-Royce employs over 45,000 people in offices, manufacturing and service facilities in over 50 countries. Over 14,000 of these employees are engineers.
5. In 2012, Rolls-Royce invested £919 million on research and development, two thirds of which had the objective of further improving the environmental performance of its products, in particular reducing emissions.
6. Rolls-Royce supports a global network of 28 University Technology Centres, which connect the company’s engineers with the forefront of scientific research.
