Jonathan Duncklee, Duncklee Cooling & Heating Receives Employer of the Year Award -

Dedication to Employees and Community Leads to Recognition by Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce

Jonathan Duncklee of Duncklee Cooling and Heating in Stonington, CT, received the Edward O. McCabe 2012 Employer of the Year at the Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce Silent Auction and Annual Dinner held in December. Duncklee Cooling and Heating services an area from Old Saybrook, CT, eastward through southwestern Rhode Island.

This recognition comes to Jonathan as a result of his outstanding relationship with his employees, and his dedication as a leader both within his company and his community.  Jonathan’s recognition as Employer of the Year award places him in good company, as the 9th recipient of this recognition, named after the first Employer of the Year Award recipient Edward O. McCabe.

The Duncklee employee who nominated Jonathan describes him as “everything a boss should be,” and that “he has shown compassion, caring and strength, as a man and as our leader.” While Jonathan has cared for his staff’s well being, he has also been extremely active in his community, supporting organizations such as Hygienic Art, Big Brothers Big Sisters, the Garde Arts Center, the Eugene O’Neill Theater, MASH, Hospice of SECT and most recently The Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center’s Campaign to Preserve Coogan Farm.

What is it about Jonathan Duncklee and his vision of doing business that has led him to this recognition? Jonathan’s dedication to his company staff and his community shows his commitment as a businessman and leader. The company, where he serves as Vice President, has had its share of economic highs and lows over the past 39 years, but under his guidance, the staff has grown from eight employees to as many as 35. Staff longevity can also reflect the company vision and culture, with five employees being with the company over ten years; and one gentleman has been with the company for 33 years.

The Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce has felt as part of their mission to support its Chamber membership with annual recognition for accomplishments within the community that they live and work in. Adding the Employer of the Year category to the roster that include Volunteers of the Year and Community Service Awards, adds that element that is critical to ‘good business’; how a business leader treats his or her staff as part of the company culture. Company culture is the personality of a company and defines what a company, from an employee perspective, is like to work for. Company culture includes the company mission, values, ethics, expectations, goals, and work environment. Jonathan Duncklee takes his company culture seriously, and his staff’s attitude reflects that, in essence telling him “thank you,” by nominating him for this award.
