Innovative new approach to data-driven health care will improve quality and speed of decisions for higher quality of care

RESTON, Virginia — CHRISTUS Health, the largest Integrated Delivery Network (IDN) in the South Central United States, has selected Teradata and Claraview for designing and implementing its new healthcare analytics platform. CHRISTUS’ new data warehouse analytics platform, including hardware, software, data utilities and consulting services, will help the healthcare leader evolve beyond traditional healthcare technology thinking – to redefine what is possible for healthcare providers, with more detailed views of data, better data management and the economic value of integrated data. CHRISTUS expects this to generate deeper insight and result in an enhanced patient quality of care.

The announcement was made today by Teradata (NYSE: TDC), the analytic data solutions company, as well as its Claraview division, which is a strategy and technology consultancy focused exclusively on business intelligence and analytic solutions. The new information solution includes the Teradata Data Warehouse Appliance platform, a Teradata Healthcare Logical Data Model (HC-LDM), a Teradata Data Mart Appliance for Test and Development, and Claraview’s consulting services to map clinical data into the HC-LDM as well as deploy analytics across the organization.

“We were looking for a solution to provide end to end integration that would effectively support a constantly shifting set of demands for data in a dynamically changing healthcare environment from both a strategic and operational perspective,” said George Conklin, CHRISTUS Chief Information Officer.

CHRISTUS, with over 40 hospitals and facilities in seven U.S. states and six states in Mexico, is now actively transforming its data environment – with Claraview consulting – to develop its analytics strategy, build and deploy its logical and physical data models, and map its existing data to the new Teradata HC-LDM. The HC-LDM will not only reduce investment and time to implementation, but will also reduce risk by enabling rapid database prototyping and providing a solid foundation for current and future growth for the CHRISTUS data system.

“Our strategic goal is to integrate our siloed data sources into a single data warehouse in order to support and measure clinical protocols across the institution and leverage our evidence-based care pathways to improve the quality of patient care,” said Mavis Girlinghouse, CHRISTUS Analytics Director. “We awarded the contract to Teradata and Claraview due to their extensive healthcare data warehousing and business intelligence expertise in addition to their relevant industry experience working with health systems with similar challenges and objectives.”

Subsequent phases will involve additional steps to improve the CHRISTUS supply chain, financial processes, and ancillary clinical systems to enable tangible cost savings, productivity, and revenue uplift.

“Helping CHRISTUS drive strategic decisions that impact the quality of care for thousands of patients requires a combination of BI/DW best practices along with healthcare-specific domain knowledge that Claraview is highly-qualified to provide,” said Dan Ross, Claraview Managing Director. “We look forward to bringing our skills and experience to the table for measurable results - faster time to decision, improved information quality and actionable insight for CHRISTUS Health.”

Teradata’s momentum continues in the health care industry as companies look for more powerful database analytics to help them thrive in the midst of cost pressures, significant competition and the changes driven by health reform.

Teradata’s health care customers include BKK (Germany), the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, Centene, Express Scripts Inc., BCBS of Tennessee, Aurora, Highmark, BCBS of North Carolina, INPS (Italy), Medibank Private (Australia), and many others.
