St Helen’s based distance learning provider NCC was crowned the ‘Business Education Collaboration of the Year’ at last night’s E3 Business Award’s. The company which offers over 350 Distance Learning courses in a wide variety of subjects has become a great example of what can be achieved within the financial constraints of an economic downturn.

NCC was nominated in the ‘Business Education Collaboration of the Year’ category, and was up against stiff competition from Liverpool John Moores University, Bibi Interiors and LILA. The judging panel included entrepreneurs, journalists and education professionals. The judging process was extremely thorough and a number of aspects were considered before making the winning decision, NCC came out at the top of the pile and walked away with the prestigious award.

The awards are designed to recognise successful and innovative businesses across the North West, with a particular focus on the utilisation of enterprise, education, and employment. The ceremony was attended by over 700 guests representing a number of businesses from around the region. The event organiser Mubarak Chati describes the event as celebrating the businesses that stayed competitive in the hard times; “These are the heroes of our local economy – entrepreneurs who have created new jobs and demonstrated their faith in the next generation through apprenticeships, training programs and close ties with the educational sector.”

NCC has championed the apprenticeship program, with a number of apprentices moving up to full members of staff upon completion of their apprenticeship. NCC Home Learning have developed an excellent reputation for employing and developing apprentices in conjunction with St Helen’s Chamber of Commerce, this focus on young people and their positive influence has been key to NCC’s success.
