PALPA President and CEO Responds to DPW Secretary Gary Alexander’s Resignation

WEBWIRE

JEFFERSONVILLE, PA – Frank Byrne, President and CEO of the Pennsylvania LIFE Provider Alliance (PALPA) issued the following statements today responding to the announcement last week that state Department of Public Welfare (DPW) Secretary Gary D. Alexander will resign later this month:

During his tenure, Secretary Alexander embraced the vision of expanding access to home and community based services like the LIFE Program across the state and recognized the value of this managed care model to care for the elderly, one of the largest and most vulnerable groups of constituents. His comprehensive understanding of the complex funding mechanisms within the health and long term care system and his profound compassion for all of the people he served will be greatly missed”

“Secretary Alexander’s resignation represents a great loss to PALPA, its members and the Commonwealth. At a time of great economic uncertainty, his willingness to work collaboratively with PALPA and the LIFE providers in order to sustain the current operational programs and plan for future growth by seeking mutual opportunities for greater economy and efficiency has been a tremendous asset to us all. While we wish Secretary Alexander all the best in his future endeavors, we fervently hope that the work he has begun on reforming the system continues in earnest well into the future”
