ABIH Maintains Focus and Continues to Grow

The American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH) is committed to serving and championing the goals of the industrial hygiene community.

ABIH offers the premier certification in the world for occupational hygienists, the Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH). Professionals who achieve the prestigious CIH designation are dedicated to protecting the health and safety of the workforce and our communities.

The American Board of Industrial Hygiene has never lost sight of its purpose in administering the CIH program.  The dedicated staff and CIH volunteers of ABIH continually strive to improve the program.  Today, ABIH is accredited to ISO/ANSI’s personal certification program and is also an IOHA recognized Certification Board, both of which help with global transportability of the CIH credential.

“Over the last decade, and in spite of tough economic conditions, the number of CIHs has continued to steadily increase because Industrial Hygiene professionals saw the value of independent verification of their knowledge and skills,” reported Tracy Parsons, CIH, Administrative Program Manager at ABIH. “This is interesting because also over the last two decades, there has been a significant expansion in the number of organizations offering certification programs. These other programs compete for the time and interest of occupational health professionals. We believe IH professionals have continued to see the personal and professional value of ABIH’s CIH certification over the other niche certifications or certificate-based programs.”

The ABIH and CIH program recently celebrated their 53rd anniversary.  Since 1960, the CIH program has been the gold standard and is today the world’s largest, premier certification for Industrial Hygienists. CIHs are recognized as leaders in the industrial hygiene community and are highly sought after by industry, institutions and government agencies.

ABIH recently released a video about the benefits of achieving the CIH that can be viewed at: http://www.abih.org/abih-video
