Honda returns with a new 1.6-litre diesel Civic for UK motorists

This year, Honda will launch a brand new, diesel version of the award-winning Civic. The hatchback is now equipped with a 1.6-litre diesel engine, an all-new drive system that debuts with the model.

Displaying Honda’s focus on the development of economical technology, the vehicle boasts some of the lowest fuel consumption and emissions of any model in the range. Before releasing the new Civic in the UK, the manufacturer has comprehensively tested the car with the new engine on European roads.

A 2.2-litre diesel version was released during 2012 - but the 1.6-litre diesel is a completely new Honda engine, and leads the way in the car maker’s comeback to the diesel car market. Built as a turbodiesel with 118bhp, the hatchback is set to offer an impressive 78.5mpg combined and emit just 94g/km of CO2. As a result, the Civic will be exempt from the London Congestion Charge - a real benefit for any driver who visits the capital, and reassuring for motorists concerned about climate change.

Constructed using pioneering techniques and lightweight aluminium, the 170kg Civic is claimed as the lightest diesel road car in the world by Honda. It’s also expected to uphold the five-star safety rating that its predecessor received from EuroNCAP: the new model is fitted with front, side and curtain airbags, electronic braking assistance and ISOFIX child seat attachments. A spokesperson for Honda said: “An exciting new chapter in the history of Honda diesels has begun with the arrival of the new 1.6-litre i-DTEC engine.

This is the first engine to be launched in Europe under Honda’s flagship Earth Dreams Technology environmental programme and will offer customers an outstanding balance of high fuel economy, low emissions and exciting performance.” Franchised Honda dealerships across the United Kingdom now offer the 2013 diesel Honda Civic for test drives and pre-orders.

This includes Blade Group Honda, with showrooms in Abingdon, Reading, Stratford and Swindon. Honda anticipates that the 1.6-litre diesel Civic will be one of their most popular models yet, from the date of release, so motorists interested in the new car should contact their nearest dealership today.
