WEBWIRE

(San Rafael, CA) The Novato Theater Company (NTC) presents the comedy/drama Steel Magnolias. The quintessential story of friendship and trust, serves up a southern slice of life that’s as warm and comforting as sweet potato pie.

In the world of Truvy’s local-homegrown beauty salon, six very different women come together to share their secrets, fears and love for one another while engaging in hysterical and neighborly gossip. From weddings to divorces, babies to funerals, new beginnings and happy endings, they share each moment in their lives with grace, determination, and perfectly coiffed hair. When tragedy strikes, it is in the familiar comfort of Truvy’s salon where they seek the solace and support that carries them through.

The play is based closely on the book by Robert Harling, and popularized by the film adaptation with Julia Roberts. Steel Magnolia’s is even more heart felt when seen performed in a live theater.

Husband and wife team Norman A. and Shirley Nilsen Hall, both Novato residents, have been with the NTC and North Bay theater community for many years. They have teamed up again to remix the 1992 production they did of the same play. In that effort, Norman directed Shirley as Truvy, she will now be playing Ouiser, Karen Clancy now taking the role of Truvy, played Annelle in the 1989 production, and Susan Zelinsky, who then played Shelby, will now be playing M’Lynn.   Show producers are Brenda Weidner and Michele Cronin.

Once a Gold Rush orphanage, the school is now a non-profit residential treatment center for boys.

At St. Vincent’s School, protection of the boys is paramount. Some areas of the school are open to the public but not the areas the boys use. Check in at Reception if you want to see the public areas. St. Vincent’s School for Boys has been doing good work for over a century and a half. It needs your kind support.
