Vampires Sell Kindle Books

VIRGINIA BEACH, Virginia (January 04, 2013) - The Vampire Kind is a new series about vampires that doesn’t follow the usual story line of the ‘undead’.  With The Vampire Kind: Oldham Knights in Amazon’s Urban Fantasy Best Seller Kindle category, Paige Ryan would be the first to tell you that vampires still sell books.  Lots of books.

“The vampire genre has been around much longer than people think.  Even before Dracula was a best seller, authors like LeFanu and Polidori had already written stories about them.” said Ms. Ryan, author of The Vampire Kind series.  “Part of the vampire’s attraction is the flexibility.  Vampires can be, and do, just about anything.  They are horrific monsters like Nosferatu or they can be the sensual philosophical characters in Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles.  Even something as contrary to vampire lore, Blade’s immunity to sunlight for instance, can be done.”

While the flexibility of the genre creates endless possibilities, it’s not forgiving.   Ms. Ryan says that even with the freedom the topic allows, a successful author still has to write something that’s possible, as well as set the foundation for it, if readers are going to embrace it.  A good vampire novel will manipulate what the reader already knows about the creature and give it a new twist that’s plausible.  The whole challenge for the author is how believable can the fantasy be written.

The urban fantasy series The Vampire Kind kicks off with the thriller, Marne of the Vampire Kind, that introduces the new species.  The second volume in the series, The Vampire Kind: Oldham Knights, follows a few of her characters in a new mystery that threatens to destroy them.  Will they survive?  Only Ms. Ryan knows.  The Vampire Kind is currently available for Kindle and is expected to be released to iBooks before summer.
