Innovative Bridal Show Launches Zany Contest
Showcase Events Opens Entries On The “Ultimate Bridal Survivor”

FAIRFAX, VA –– Showcase Events announced the kick off of a unique contest in partnership with CBS TV-6: The “Ultimate Bridal Survivor”, which will see eight finalists holed up inside a luxurious limo bus in CBS 6’s back yard from January 7 through 13.  The “last bride standing” will receive a $20,000 wedding courtesy of the Richmond Bridal Showcase and it’s exhibitors.  The Richmond Bridal Showcase takes place January 13 at the Greater Richmond Convention Center (http://www.RichmondBridalShowcase.com).

“We’ve found that brides want to have fun at the shows, they like exciting and different new elements, and of course they love winning free stuff,” said Marc McIntosh, producer of the Richmond Bridal Showcase.  “We wanted to do something new for 2013, and as far as we know, this kind of contest has only been done at auto shows, never at bridal shows.”

Another way to look at it is the Age of the Reality Show meets the Bridal Show – WTVR will of course mount cameras inside the limo bus, and will stream the “action” inside on its website for the duration of the contest.  On the morning of January 13 (or before if someone wins before that), the last contestant will be driven to the bridal show and be formally awarded her prize on the fashion show stage surrounded by bright lights and paparazzi.

“Maybe it’s Bridezillas meets Survivor,” chuckled McIntosh.  “It should be a lot of fun either way, although perhaps not a good contest to enter if you have claustrophobia.”

Entries opened — the day after Christmas – and the contest website has been “very active,” according to station sources.  Entry will remain open until midnight Friday, January 5, and McIntosh and WTVR will assemble a special committee to pick the 10 contestants.  All entrants will have to answer the question, “what makes you the Ultimate Bridal Survivor?”  Entrants can include any photos they believe are relevant to making this case, as well as uploading video files up to 200 MB .   This link will get anyone interested to the entry page: http://wtvr.com/bridalsurvivor .

The Richmond Bridal Showcase helps kick off a season for McIntosh that features shows in Virginia, Baltimore and Houston regions.    Showcase also runs a second round of events in these markets between August and September (http://www.bridalshowcase.com).

The executive producer, Marc McIntosh, selects only the highest quality and most reputable wedding vendors in each market to appear at the shows.  The shows highlight the most innovative ideas in the wedding industry and spotlight the trends for the coming wedding season. More than 1,500 wedding professionals participate each year, and they have a combined attendance of more than 25,000.

“Nearly one-quarter of all engagements occur over the December holidays, and another 12 percent occur on Valentine’s Day,” says McIntosh.  “The first weeks of the year are a crucial time in the wedding industry, as this is when many brides are researching their options and making purchase decisions.”

By combining spectacular runway fashion shows, exhibits from trusted wedding professionals, seminars and multi-media presentations, the shows provide engaged couples with the unique opportunity to discover new ideas and make face-to-face contact with a multitude of wedding vendors without the hassle of driving from place to place.
