OpenTech Systems Announces Solution to Minimize Impact of HSM Recalls

LEWISVILLE, TX, March 7, 2005, OpenTech Systems, Inc., a leading mainframe software solutions vendor, announced the availability of its newest product option, HSM Advanced Recall (HSM/AR), designed to eliminate batch job delays by pre-staging migrated HSM datasets that will be needed by production jobs. The release of HSM/AR expands the capabilities of the highly successful Advanced Recall product line, which includes the Virtual Tape Advanced Recall (VTAR) product.

“As a solutions provider, we are constantly monitoring the needs of our customers in an effort to create solutions which provide immediate cost savings to mainframe centric data centers. Our continuing focus on processes requiring the recalling of data for application processing assists our customers to meet batch deadlines by eliminating production job delays such as those caused by HSM recalls,” says Steve Sydow, CEO of OpenTech Systems.

HSM/AR utilizes data gathered from the user’s job scheduling package or HSM DCOLLECT records to create a list of the required datasets and stages those datasets for recall based on user-specified parameters. Once the candidate dataset list has been loaded into HSM/AR, the process is fully automated and HSM/AR is continuously refreshing its work queue to search for datasets that will soon be required by the production jobs. The datasets are recalled just before they will be requested by the job, so the job does not experience wait time. The datasets needed are readily available on disk.

“We felt that by designing HSM/AR to use the data center’s historical data and job scheduling information to forecast which datasets will need to be recalled, rather than waiting until the job was already in the JES queue, HSM/AR could stage the recalls more efficiently,” reports OpenTech Systems Product Manager Don Bolton.

OpenTech Systems offers a free, no-obligation analysis for anyone who would like to see how drastically HSM/AR can reduce their batch cycle run-time. This analysis provides an excellent raw picture of how much time is lost in your cycles due to HSM recalls. Technical staff personally walks each prospect through the results of this analysis, rather than just sending them a big report, to ensure the data is understood by the user.

Founded in 1993, OpenTech Systems, Inc. has been dedicated to developing software that directly lowers costs and increases productivity as reflected by the popular Virtual Data Recovery (VDR) product used worldwide. OpenTech Systems is a privately-held company located in Lewisville, Texas, and has relationships with software partners around the globe.
