Houston, TX, December 13, 2012 – Bayer continues to settle lawsuits for blood clot injuries associated with the use of its Yaz and Yasmin birth control drugs. The company’s latest financial report indicates that it has settled approximately 3,500 cases.

Yaz and Yasmin are considered “fourth generation” birth control pills that contain a synthetic progestin, drospirenone.

This hormone puts people at a higher risk of developing blood clots, strokes, and heart attacks. Yaz and Yasmin have been linked to a variety of serious side effects including:

• Blood clots in the legs (DVT)
• Blood clots in the lungs (Pulmonary Embolism)
• Stroke
• Heart attack
• Gall bladder disease
• Pancreatitis

So far, the scientific evidence connecting Yaz to blood clots is clearer than any links between the oral contraceptive and gallbladder disease.

Because of this, Bayer has confirmed they will only be settling claims involving blood clot injuries.

Many Ocella Lawsuit cases that could be eligible for settlement have, in all likelihood, not been filed yet.

However, Bayer has not been fighting the Ocella cases and is in fact settling Ocella lawsuits in addition to Yaz and Yasmin.
