Discovery Communications Records Delivery Gains Across U.S. Portfolio in October 2012

- Discovery Channel’s GOLD RUSH Season 3 Premiere #1 in all TV in Timeslot among Men -

Following strong performances by its flagship networks, highlighted by programs such as GOLD RUSH on Discovery Channel and LONG ISLAND MEDIUM on TLC, and continued momentum with Animal Planet, Investigation Discovery, SCIENCE, Destination America, Military Channel and Velocity, as well as joint ventures OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network and The Hub, Discovery Communications’ U.S. network portfolio grew 17% in P25-54 prime delivery in October 2012 vs. October 2011.

New and returning series, as well as special event programming, helped Discovery Channel rank as the #4 network for M25-54 delivery for the month and log its best October ever, including double-digit gains among HH, P2+ and P/M25-54. The GOLD RUSH season 3 premiere on Friday, Oct. 26 was #1 in all of television (no exclusions – beating out all broadcast programs) among M25-54/18-49/18-34 delivery. Premieres of GOLD RUSH, JUNGLE GOLD and YUKON MEN were the top three non-sports cable programs among P/M25-54/18-49 delivery on Friday nights.

Based on the strength of returning hit series LONG ISLAND MEDIUM and the debut of BREAKING AMISH,TLC posted single to double-digit delivery gains among HH, P2+, P/W25-54/18-49 and W18-34 and ranked among the top five ad-supported cable networks in delivery in October 2012 among W25-54.

Animal Planet earned double-digit ratings gains in prime across all major demos as well as HH and P2+, due to record-high prime performances for the new seasons of PIT BULLS AND PAROLEES and TOO CUTE!. October marks the network’s 11th consecutive month of year-over-year delivery growth among P2+ and P25-54/18-49.

Investigation Discovery earned its best October ever, with double-digit gains in prime, total day and daytime with HH, P2+ and P/W25-54, and retained its rank as the #1 network in all of television for length of tune in prime and total day. October marks ID’s 42nd consecutive month of year-over-year prime gains among HH, P2+ and P/W25-54 delivery, the longest current streak of any ad-supported cable network.

SCIENCE, Destination America and Military Channel each earned their best October ever in key demos and October ranked as the top-performing month ever for Velocity for M25-54/18-49 delivery. SCIENCE achieved its 11th consecutive month of year-over-year delivery gains with P2+ and P/M25-54 and its best October delivery ever with P2+ and P/M/W25-54/18-49. Velocity’s October performance lifted the M25-54 target by 64%, enabling the network to climb 23 places in the prime standings.

Discovery’s joint venture networks OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network and The Hub earned double-digit increases across HH, P2+ and target demos in October. On the strength of premieres of Oprah’s Next Chapter and IYANLA: FIX MY LIFE, OWN logged its 9th consecutive month of year-over-year growth and ranked #29 in W25-54 ratings. The Hub achieved its 10th consecutive month of year-over-year Total Day gains in its key demos and continues to be the #1 fastest growing network in YTD subscribers among all basic cable networks (8.8M subscriber gains), now reaching over 70M.
