The Republic of Azerbaijan and Thomson Reuters Honor Country’s Leading Members of the Scientific Research Community

The “Perspectives of Science and Development in Azerbaijan” assists in broadening the country’s scientific profile

PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Intellectual Property & Science business of Thomson Reuters, the world’s leading provider of intelligent information for businesses and professionals, joined the Ministry of Communication and Information Technologies of the Republic of Azerbaijan to honor the country’s leading scientific researchers and journals, across a variety of disciplines. The “Perspectives of Science and Development in Azerbaijan” award ceremony was held last week in Baku, Azerbaijan.

The honored researchers were chosen for the impact of their research, which has been demonstrated by the number of times their work has been cited by peers in the scientific community. This data was analyzed with Thomson Reuters Web of KnowledgeSM, an intelligent research platform providing access to the world’s leading citation databases.

Awards were presented to Eldar Gasimov for excellence in medicine, neuroscience and clinical neurology; Elman M. Shahverdiev for excellence in physics; Bakhtiyar A. Mamedov for excellence in polymer chemistry; Azim Naghdaliyev for excellence in general medicine; and, Vugar A. Mammadov for excellence in metallurgy and metallurgical engineering.

The Journal Applied and Computational Mathematics was given an award for excellence in scientific publishing, which was accepted by one of its two Editors-in Chief, Fikret A. Aliyev. The other Editor-in-Chief is the Minister of Communication and Information Technologies, Ali Abbasov.

“Azerbaijan sees itself as a vital part of the world community and this event, organized in cooperation with Thomson Reuters, was a clear indication of that,” said Minister Abbasov of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies of the Republic of Azerbaijan. “It is encouraging to see five prominent Azerbaijani scientists representing medicine, physics and heavy industry recognized by Thomson Reuters.”

Members of the Thomson Reuters team were onsite showcasing Thomson Reuters Web of Knowledge, to an audience of the Vice-Minister of Communication and Information Technologies, Vice-Minister of Education, Vice-President of Azerbaijani Academy of Sciences, Director of Science Department of the Ministry of Education, Vice-Chairman of the Copyright Agency and many Chancellors and Vice Chancellors from leading institutions across the country.
