San Diego Hospice reports a very successful year for its 5th annual golf tournament at The Crosby at Rancho Santa Fe, making it the organization’s most successful golf tournament to date, raising $100,000. 120 golfers played during the patriotic-themed fundraiser, held on September 11. In addition, 150 guests attended the post-tournament cocktail reception and dinner featuring a live auction.

Local sports celebrities who played in the tournament included World Series champion and Major League Baseball All-Star Jamie Moyer, and NAPA NHRA Funny Car Driver Ron Capps who played with the NAPA Auto Parts Foursome.

Proceeds raised benefit the grief and loss support programs offered through The Center for Grief Care and Education at San Diego Hospice, including Camp Erin San Diego – an annual weekend summer camp open to children ages 6 to 17 who have been impacted by a death. Camp Erin San Diego is part of the largest national network of bereavement camps in the country established by The Moyer Foundation, a non-profit organization founded Jamie Moyer and his wife, Karen. The Foundation’s mission is to help children in distress. Former San Diego Padres player and Major League Baseball All-Star Trevor Hoffman made a surprise visit to this year’s Camp Erin San Diego, visiting with campers and autographing camp shirts.

“Thanks to the generosity of golf tournament participants and Tournament Sponsor Sharp Business Systems, San Diego Hospice raised over $100,000 at this event,” said Kristy Brehm, Rancho Santa Fe Resident and San Diego Hospice Golf Tournament Chair. “Because of this tremendous support, grieving children have access to vital grief support services to help them through what can be a difficult and challenging time in their lives.”

“The success of our annual golf tournament is largely due to the incredible support of our volunteer committee, led by Chair Kristy Brehm and Co-Chair Kim VanNostern,” said Traci Bruckner, Chief Development Officer for San Diego Hospice and The Institute for Palliative Medicine. “Their tireless efforts help to raise awareness about San Diego Hospice services, especially grief and loss support programs for adults and children. “

The community is invited to save the date of September 10, 2013, for the 6th annual San Diego Hospice Invitational Golf Tournament at The Crosby in Rancho Santa Fe.
