Local Business Owner Takes To The Sky In Worlds Largest Flyaway Dog Rescue

The scene was a madhouse Saturday morning at the Charlotte-Monroe Executive airport.  300 furry animals brought in by rescue organizations across North and South Carolina were waiting for their ticket to a new life.

The Pilots N Paws “Dog Is My Copilot Flyaway” was in full force, as 60 pilots took to the skies to bring these dogs to no-kill shelters and forever homes across the east coast.

Ryan Ellis was one of these pilots.  Ellis is the owner of BestNameBadges.com, a South Florida manufacturing company.

Ellis is an avid animal lover and regularly helps out animals in need.  BestNameBadges.com also sponsors an American bald eagle as part of their Made In America initiative.

When asked how he got involved with Pilots N Paws, Ellis said, “I love to fly, and having the opportunity to help animals in need makes these flights that much more rewarding.  When the call came in about this flyaway rescue, I didn’t hesitate to say yes.”

About 40 dogs were flown into Craig Field on Saturday, on their way to new homes.  The 3 dogs Ellis rescued will be taken to Big Dog Ranch Rescue, a 27 acre ranch in Wellington, FL.  Over 300 dogs found new homes that Saturday, rescued from near certain death.  This latest Pilots N Paws event was the largest single day flyaway rescue in history.

Ellis plans on completing at least 3 additional rescue flights by the end of 2012 and is always looking for the opportunity to help when needed.
