WSI’s Material Logistics & Services Accepted as Responsible Care® Partner
APPLETON, WI, August 28, 2012 – Material Logistics & Services (MLS), a subsidiary of Top-100 logistics provider WSI, has been accepted by the American Chemistry Council (ACC) as a Responsible Care® Partner.
Responsible Care is a voluntary global initiative of the chemical industry, focused on protecting the environment while continuously improving performance along environmental, health, safety and security measures. The program, led by the American Chemistry Council, is the most comprehensive of its kind, driving performance beyond governmental regulatory compliance. Participants include more than 220 leading chemical manufacturers, as well as firms with direct involvement in the distribution, sale, transportation, storage, treatment and disposal of chemicals.
Over the past 25 years, Responsible Care companies have achieved significant success in improving environmental, health, safety and security performance. For example:
- 75% reduction in hazardous emissions into the air, land and water from 1988-2010
- 76% reduction in recordable injury/illness rates since 1990
- 4 times better worker safety record than the U.S. manufacturing sector; twice as safe as the chemical industry overall
- 56% reduction in distribution incidents over the past 17 years
- 10% increase in energy efficiency; 16% reduction in greenhouse gas intensity from 1992-2010
Responsible Care partnership signifies an executive-level commitment to adhere to the program’s principles of safe and ethical chemical handling, while working toward continual improvement in environmental, health, safety and security.
