FamilyIQ Hosts Webinar on Social Networking with Dr. Jared Balmer

Dr. Balmer discussed the four major contributors to anxiety and depression in adolescents. The four contributors, according to Dr. Balmer are lack of coping skills, the paradox of choice, lack of identity formation, and electronic social networking. Dr. Balmer specifically focused on the impact of social networking on anxiety and depression in adolescents and teens and how it has led to a decline in social skills. He went on to discuss the impact of a decline in social skills, stating “When a person’s social skill is declining, a person feels socially isolated.” adding “With social isolation comes depression.” Dr. Balmer summarized by discussing how to limit the impact of social networking by creating reasonable limits with adolescents and teens.
