The average motorist is likely to be paying out around £90 a year extra on their car insurance policy because of whiplash claims, according to new figures released this week.

Numbers published by the AA showed that claims for whiplash injury cost insurers more than £2 billion last year, which the motor insurance and breakdown company also noted has contributed to one of the largest rises in car insurance premiums ever seen.

Commenting after the release of the figures, as well as the announcement of new measures to tackle whiplash claim fraud by the government, director of AA Insurance Simon Douglas blasted the current claims system as “dysfunctional”.

“I hope that today’s government announcement will see a tight timescale applied to reform of the civil litigation which at present, encourages people to make a claim regardless of how serious their injury is or even if they have not suffered injury at all,” he said.

He also noted that even though the number of people making claims for injuries suffered on the road continues to rise, the number of accidents occurring on Britain’s highways is actually falling.

Here at Clear Law we are happy to help any motorist to pursue genuine claims, and assist them in claiming the compensation to which they are entitled. We deal with whiplash claims, incidents caused by ice and snow and accidents involving pedestrians, as well as a range of other situations.

Commenting on the figures from the AA, Padraig Conway, road traffic claims solicitor at Clear Law, said: “While increased car insurance premiums are bad news for any motorist this should not deter drivers and pedestrians hurt in accidents from pursuing genuine claims. Road traffic accident injuries and whiplash can have a truly devastating impact on a life, and being awarded compensation can help to alleviate some of the stress or financial issues injured parties have to deal with following a collision or crash.”
