Atlanta, GA -- Liz Buddenhagen, RN, CLNC attended the March 27, 2012 educational program presented by the GTLA at the State Bar of Georgia. Linley Jones expertly chaired the ambitious program.  

The Agenda - Tort Cases: Start to Finish:

Charlotte Perrell of Perrell and Wright started with “Top Ten Ways to Avoid Malpractice Claims,” Tedra Hobson of Butler, Wooten & Fryholfer continued with “Effective Pretrial Motions,” and Jenny Jensen of Jones, Jensen and Harris followed with “Witness Preparation.”

Audrey Tolson of The Tolson Firm and formerly with The Cochran Firm discussed “Screening Medical Malpractice Cases and Finding Experts.” Tolson is an experienced medical malpractice and catastrophic injury attorney. Lyle Griffin Warshauer carried on with “Preserving Objections for Appeal.”

B.J. Bernstein covered “The Client Whisperer: Dealing with Special Needs Clients.” “Bernstein’s talk reminded me a lot of working with special needs patients in the hospital,” said Buddenhagen. “She uses some of the same techniques we nurses employ.”

Kathy McArthur effectively presented “Preparing for Trial - Not Settlement.” Natalie Woodward covered “What You Need to Know About the New Rules of Evidence,” and Traci Green Courville delved into “HIPAA, Ex Parte and the Treating Physician.” Jennifer Auer Jordan of the Bird Law Group hit upon “Tips for Increasing Damages.”

Chrisna Jones outlined “Effectively Maintaining a Solo Trial Practice.” Jones concentrates on medical malpractice and catastrophic injuries as a natural extension of her former experience of ten years as an ICU RN prior to attending law school.

Ann-Margaret Perkins talked about “Client Intake and Initial Investigation,” Laura Conrad Reis of W. Calvin Smith instructed on “Maximizing Damages in Workers’ Compensation , Jane Lamberti Sams described ”Litigating a Case in an MDL,“ and Rebecca Franklin presented video related to ”Handling Deposition Misconduct"

Laura Shamp nailed “Closing Arguments - Law and Stategy” and Lee Tarte Wallace hit on “Blowing the Whistle on Fraud: Whistleblower/Qui Tam Cases.”

To close out the day, Laurie Speed-Dalton moderated a panel discussion “A Judge’s Panel Perspective on Good Lawyering” which featured: Judge Brenda Cole of the State Court of Fulton County, Judge Susan Edlein of Fulton County State Court and Judge Shawn LaGrua of Fulton County Superior Court.
