London/Sydney 26 April 2012 – A new Finance and Investment forum for datacentres has been announced for Australia (www.fif-australia.com). It follows on from the successful international forum series which takes place in London each year, and more recently in Hong Kong. The new forum will have law firm Gilbert and Tobin as Patron of the event.

Now the forum will take place in Australia, reflecting the significant expansion that has occurred in the sector. Recent findings from the launch edition of a new tracker service Finance and Investment for datacentres (F&I) suggested that datacentre capacity has expanded substantially in the first quarter of 2012, with the mature markets of North America, UK and Australia who continue to dominate activity.

Researched and produced by consulting firm BroadGroup, the first forum took place at the Cass Business School in London in 2007 and since then it has become recognized as the premier annual international meeting point for investors, operators, professional intermediaries and legal counsel focused on the datacentre sector.

The objective of the one-day forum is to bring together stakeholders and players in the sector across the finance and investment community, carrier neutral and carrier owned operational companies, government and regional investment authorities, property interests, law firms and supply led organizations, to assess where the sector is heading and identify key opportunities.

“With the exponential growth in cloud services and datacentre demand across the Asia Pacific region, datacentre projects form an important part of our legal practice - advising a broad range of developers, service providers and corporate customers”, says Gilbert + Tobin partner Bernadette Jew. “Gilbert + Tobin is delighted to partner with BroadGroup to host the inaugural Finance and Investment forum for data centres in Australia.”

“The datacentre sector has begun 2012 in bullish fashion reaffirming the long-term confidence and optimism suggested by previous analysis,” commented Philip Low, director of BroadGroup. “Australia is a market we have covered in studies over the past three years, and its importance is reflected in the new forum which takes place in Sydney in November.”

BroadGroup also publishes Finance and Investment for Datacentres (F&I), a tracker of finance and investment in the datacentre sector.
