Moscow, March 30, 2012 - Crown Fine Arts, a fine arts transportation company with operations in over 50 countries worldwide, was chosen to manage the fine arts logistics for the Henry Moore’s exhibit at the Kremlin Museum’s two exhibition halls, the Assumption Belfry and One-Pillar Chamber, located in Moscow, Russia.

The exhibition began on February 21, 2012 and will run through to May 10, 2012. It is sponsored by the Kremlin Museum and the Henry Moore Foundation (HMF), in collaboration with the British Council. The exhibit presents a retrospective of Henry Moore’s career and oeuvre, from his early carvings in stone, wood and marble, to experiments into biomorphic surrealism in the 1930s, investigations into constructivism, and abstract and figurative sculptures from the 1980s. The display also includes a remarkable collection of Moore’s graphics and drawings as well as fabric tapestries, crafted according to his designs. A total of 83 objects, ranging from the smallest in size, 4.5 x 7 x 4 cm, to the largest, 148 x 113 x 76 cm, were on display.

Crown Fine Arts in London loaded the exhibition artwork consisting of 49 wooden crates with an average Brutto weight of 4760 kilograms, or 10,500 pounds, per crate into a fine arts truck and trailer in London. A courier from HMF accompanied the Crown team of drivers before the crates were shipped to Helsinki by ferry boat and later met by a Russian police escort at the Finland-Russia border. Once the items were inspected at Moscow’s special customs clearance point, the truck, under security escort, was driven to the Kremlin Museum, which is situated on the highest of 7 hills in Moscow city, for unloading.

Due to the complicated logistics of loading precious artwork into two separated exhibition halls, all efforts were made to ensure a flawless arrival and unloading of these important pieces – all under severe weather conditions of less than minus 20 degrees Celsius, or minus 4 degrees Fahrenheit. The work was done in a closely observed environment. Crates were placed in the One-Pillar Chamber and unloaded by hand between doors that have approximately 4-5 mm of space from each side. No forklift equipment was used in unloading the artwork due to the number of stairs. Since the Russian President and his administration offices are located in the Kremlin, all of Crown’s movements were supervised by the President’s Security Service.

The Assumption Belfry is the second exhibition hall situated in the heart of the Kremlin at the Cathedral Square. Crown used special manoeuvring when unloading artwork from the truck and trailer at the Cathedral Square, located behind the President’s security guard. The ground floor of the Assumption Belfry houses an exhibition hall of Moscow’s Kremlin Museum. Artworks from both of the Kremlin’s collections and those of other Russian and foreign museums are exhibited in the hall.

Igor Filatov, director Nordics (Finland, Russia, Ukraine) of Crown Fine Arts commented: “This project strengthened our relations with the Kremlin museum and once again confirmed that John Nurminen Prima, a Crown Fine Arts company, can deliver despite any difficulties mother nature or whatever restrictions placed on our way.”
