DMEC Celebrates 20 Years of Optimizing Workforce Productivity

WEBWIRE

San Diego, California.2012 marks the 20th anniversary of the Disability Management Employer Coalition (DMEC), a non-profit organization that advances strategies and resources to improve workforce productivity. The association was established in San Diego, California in 1992 and has expanded to include chapters across the country, as well as an annual international conference.

“After 20 years, DMEC continues to be the driving force in providing information and educational programs to help employers in the development of workforce productivity processes.  Our member employers have implemented coordinated programs which have resulted in thousands of individuals maintaining employment during a disabling condition, while ensuring employer productivity,” says Sharon Kaleta, CPDM, Chairman of the Board, DMEC. “We are looking forward to the next 20 years.”

DMEC’s mission remains the same—to advance strategies and resources that improve workforce productivity by minimizing the impact of absence and disability. However, both the absence management field and the methods DMEC uses to keep employees on the job and productive, as well as emphasize early and successful return to work, have changed tremendously.

“Who would have guessed that metrics, predictive modeling or compliance would be the hot topics back in 1992?  Yet, best practices in the fundamentals like return-to-work and case management continue to serve the needs of our members,” says DMEC CEO and Co-Founder, Marcia Carruthers. “The best outcome from my vantage point is that the concept of integration is both enduring and successful. That is a testament to the thousands of DMEC members who saw the vision and continued with their passionate work to make it a lasting model.”
