2012 promises to be a year of great change in the world of remittances. As the economy in Europe continues to struggle and the US begins to make a slow recovery attention is more focused on regions with growth.

This is certainly the case in the Middle East. Total financial transfers by expats in GCC exceed $269 bn during 2006-2010. The inflow of remittances during July-January 2012 from Saudi Arabia, UAE, USA, UK, GCC countries (including Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and Oman) and EU countries amounted to $2,008.47 million, $1,644.34 million, $1,328.31 million, $853.47 million, $845.41 million, and $215.64 million respectively as compared with the inflow of $1,353.40 million, $1,437.05 million, $1,145.71 million, $669.70 million, $721.47 million and $195.66 million respectively in July-January 2011.
