San Diego, CA, February 14, 2012 — Today, Intern Profits released an Open Letter to The New York Times on the biased reporting on unpaid internships.  The Open Letter reveals the numerous accounts the newspaper reports on unpaid internship abuses while never highlighting internship success stories or how an internship program provides on the job training and therefor a more trained workforce.  The letter also highlights the lack of a diverse group of experts being interviewed for their stories or being allowed to provide opinions in their Op-Ed columns.

The open letter was initially submitted to The New York Times as an Op-Ed, however the paper declined to print the alternative view.

“As I have watched the reports and commentary coming out of the New York Times on unpaid internship programs I’ve been shocked by the lack of balanced reporting.  Both sides of the story, not just intern abuses, should be told,” said Dreama Lee, Co-Founder of Intern Profits and author of the open letter.   She continued, “it’s important that people understand that there are good companies and organizations hiring interns and providing great internships for our future workforce.”

The open letter goes on to provide insight into how internships may provide a solution to the economic crisis facing the nation and other countries around the world.  Internships provide educational opportunities for the intern to go on to get a job or be hired by the company they are interning with.  Likewise, internships provide organizations the opportunity to bring on an intern to help them grow their business, thereby creating more jobs for the economy and a trained workforce to take on those jobs.
