Alexandria, VA
This past November and December, CommonWealth One Federal Credit Union conducted their 7th Annual Warm Hearts Coat Drive, collecting winter coats, scarves, mittens, gloves and hats for donation to charities in their branches’ local communities.

In recent years this charity drive has experienced a drastic increase in donations despite, or perhaps because of, the country’s economic struggles.  In 2009 CommonWealth One collected more than 50 coats and other winter clothing from its members. Those items were donated to the Lupus Foundation in Alexandria, VA, Mercy House in Harrisonburg, VA, as well as House of Hope Men’s Shelter and C-Cap in Front Royal, VA.

In 2010 CommonWealth One collected a total of 100 coats plus a variety of other winter apparel for Alternative House in Dunn Loring, VA; House of Hope in Front Royal, VA; and Mercy House in Harrisonburg, VA. This year’s donation drive yielded a total of 231 coats and other winter clothing, which were donated to First Steps in Harrisonburg and the Lupus Foundation of America in Washington, D.C.

CommonWealth One has a strong commitment to supporting the communities we serve and the members who live there.  CommonWealth One not only supports local charities during the holiday giving season, but also throughout the year by donating to the Children’s Miracle Network, Walk to Fight Breast Cancer, Community Partners for Children, and others.
