- Set milestones that are real and achievable. Clarke was constantly setting targets of what to achieve before drinks, before lunch or in the next five overs – he was not just looking at the goal for the entire test.
- Put the vision of the business above their own ego. Clarke could have set many personal records in Sydney – and not left time for the team to win the Test match.
- Avoid trying to do everything. As the captain, Clarke was not trying to do everything. He was performing the tasks he needed to do to the best of his ability and utilising other specialists for other roles.
