 The Federal Reserve announced household worth dropped during the third quarter of 2011 by $2.4 Trillion.  Household net worth is the difference between the value of assets and liabilities.   

Here are some statistics released from the Federal Reserve report:
§  Since the second quarter of 2011, Americans saw declines in the value of corporate and foreign bonds, corporate equities, mutual fund shares and pension funds.
§  Value of pension fund reserves fell $930.9 billion since the second quarter, while assets in corporate equities dropped $1.5 trillion.
§  Household debt declined at an annual rate of 1.25 percent in the third quarter in continuation of the contraction that started during the third quarter of 2008.
§  Mortgage debt fell at an annual rate of 1.75 percent.
§  At the end of the third quarter, the level of household debt outstanding was $13.2 trillion.
§  Domestic nonfinancial debt outstanding was $37.8 trillion, nonfinancial business debt was $11.5 trillion, and total government debt was $13.1 trillion. http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1211/70119.html
