Rising Tide Capital is Starting Something in New Jersey during Global Entrepreneurship Week

Rising Tide Capital

WEBWIRE

For the fourth consecutive year, New Jersey nonprofit, Rising Tide Capital is partnering with local government and business leaders to host the Garden State’s celebration of Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) from November 14-21st. The initiative will include free events across Orange, Newark, and Jersey City as well as a state-wide online video competition.

The week will kick off with a ceremony at City Hall in Jersey City, where small business owners will have the opportunity to meet business leaders and elected officials including Lieutenant Governor Kim Guadagno and Jersey City Mayor, Jerramiah Healy. The rest of the week will be packed with events including the “Start It Up Resource Fair” and panels featuring entrepreneurs who will share what it takes to start, run and grow a small business in New Jersey.

The diverse lineup of speakers will include Jersey City-environmentalist and fashion-designer Liz Long, business guru Jerry Colonna, and Stevie Clifton, the co-founder of ANIMOTO, a video-making website with over 3 million users. The Star-Ledger Marketing Director Robert Provost will train entrepreneurs how to market their businesses and Main Street success, Dawn Fitch, will share her strategies for launching a business in Orange.

Entrepreneurs with a creative flair are encouraged to submit videos of their business idea at www.startsomethingnj.org using the easy (and free) technology on ANIMOTO’s website, which transforms photos and video clips into catchy slideshows. Creators of top videos will meet with ANIMOTO’s co-founder and win prizes to support their businesses.

Grown-ups aren’t the only ones invited to participate in GEW. RTC is partnering with the Orange Township School Board to host a speaker series to encourage high school students to explore entrepreneurship.

The week will finish on Saturday, November 19 with ARTfest, an all-day market-fair which will bring together artists, local vendors, and performers, including nationally-acclaimed spoken word poet, Gemineye.

The New Jersey celebration is just one part of a global initiative celebrated across the U.S. and in over 100 countries worldwide. Rising Tide Capital began hosting a local version of Global Entrepreneurship Week in Jersey City four years ago. Each year the event has expanded, drawing approximately 50 partners and over 1,000 participants in 2010.
