Grant Program Helps Pastors Increase Weekly Giving

WEBWIRE

The city of Portsmouth, Va. has received nearly $50 million in HOPE VI federal grants to redevelop a blighted community and create affordable home ownership opportunities for its citizens.

In an effort to help their church members secure sub-grants from the original grant award, pastors are getting their churches certified as host sites for the Westbury Biblical Stewardship Workshop.

Upon completion of the workshop, church members are eligible to apply for the sub-grant program. Once approved, church members will receive grant funding to help them obtain one of the brand-new homes located in the Westbury Community. The homes have floor plans that have up to 1,800 square feet of living space with four bedrooms, three bathrooms, new appliances, and private back yard.

In response to their improved financial condition, church members who benefited from the grant have increased the weekly offering they give to their church.

In a recent interview, CEO Tracy J. Brown, of Urban Awareness USA said, “these workshops are great tools for pastors” “…Not only are the workshops based on sound biblical stewardship principals, but they also provide an opportunity to introduce the gospel to individuals who are unsaved or unsure”.

When asked about the financial benefit that host churches receive, Brown said; “Pastors who have the vision to participate in programs like this can reap enormous rewards” . “…Over the years, I’ve worked closely with pastors to help organize similar events and I’ve seen firsthand that increases in weekly giving come as a direct result of hosting these types of biblical stewardship workshops”.
