Rüsselsheim. The new Opel Combo generation has its World Premiere at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt (15 until 25 September). The Combo range is then immediately available either as a passenger car or panel van. Dealers will take delivery of the Combo as soon as February 2012. The price of the 1.4 liter gasoline version of the panel van with its 70kW/95hp starts at 13.750 Euro (plus VAT). The price for the passenger cars begins at 17.650 Euro (recommended retail price including VAT). All in all, six different gasoline, diesel and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) engines are now available. Engine specifications range all the way from 66kW/90hp at the lower end to 99kW/135hp at the upper end of the scale. All of the units are well suited to long range driving: The gasoline and diesel versions are equipped with a 60 liter fuel tank. The CNG Combo includes gas tanks which in total can hold up 95 liters, in addition to a 22 liter gasoline tank. Combos with long wheelbases can even be fitted with CNG tanks totaling 130 liters of volume. This enables it to reach a maximum range of 750 kilometers.

The strengths of the new Combo family lie in the broad spectrum of models, its efficiency and impressive versatility. Customers face plenty of choices and can opt between a short wheelbase of 2.76 meters and a long one measuring 3.11 meters. The total length therefore varies between 4.39 and 4.74 meters respectively. In addition, there are two different roof options available at the point of sale: one roof is 1.85 meters high and the other is 2.10 meters. The highly versatile Combo can be delivered either as a multifunctional passenger car type in a five or seven seater version, or as a two-seater panel van with a closed or glazed body.

Powerful workhorse: Cargo space of up to 4.600 liters

The panel van has an impressive loading capacity. The short wheelbase Combo can take up to 3.800 liters of cargo, while its longer sister model can accommodate a volume of 4.600 liters, making it the Best in Class or leader of its own segment. The relatively low sill height of the loading area (54.5 cm), the large aperture width of the sliding door and high capacity for carrying goods for up to a ton give the Combo Best in Class status.

The panel van versions offers easy access to the loading area, thanks to one or two sliding doors which can be offered as options. The passenger car version comes with two sliding doors and a top-hinged tailgate. An asymmetrical double wing door is also available. The passenger cabin is equally very practical and designed with maximum functionality in mind. There is ample storage space in the doors and in between the seats, as well as large storage compartment above the windshield. Other examples of storage space include stowage pockets in the seats, a document holder near the instrument panel or the laptop holder attached to the glove compartment. The new Combo generation comes complete with central locking and power steering. Other basic features include an adjustable steering wheel, electric windows at the front and an adjustable driver seat. Safety features include an air-bag on the driver’s side as well as an ABS braking system plus tire repair kit.

The new Combo is based on the Doblò model of the Opel’s cooperation partner Fiat. The Doblò won the “International Van of the Year 2011” and lays the foundations for Opel’s future growth in the commercial vehicle segment.
