New York, NY – mtvU, MTV’s 24-hour college network, today announced that “South Park” and “The Book of Mormon” creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone are the newest guest professors in the network’s ongoing, Emmy-nominated “Stand In” series. With mtvU cameras in-tow, Stone and Parker hit the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University to surprise a room of freshmen on their first day of Professor Liotti’s “Storytelling Strategies” class. Stone and Parker’s “Stand In” will premiere on mtvU to over 750 college campuses and on-demand at mtvU.com beginning at 12 p.m. EST, 9 a.m. PST on Monday, October 3, 2011 and will repeat throughout the week, but viewers can click here now for a sneak peek.

“When it comes to crafting stories for the stage, the silver screen or the small screen, there’s simply no one better than Matt or Trey” said Eric Conte, Head of Programming, mtvU. “We’re thrilled that these kings of satire were able to share their secrets with the world’s future storytellers.”

With “South Park” marking its 15th season this year, guest lecturers Stone and Parker gave these college freshmen unique insight into the craft of screenwriting, focusing on the importance of plot and the art of keeping it simple.

“We started to learn that simple was better,” Parker told the class. “But we had to learn that all over again with everything we did – ‘South Park,’ ‘Team America,’ ‘Book of Mormon.’”

“It’s so cool to talk [to the class] and pretend like we know what we’re doing,” Stone replied.

The “South Park” creators are the latest cultural luminaries to participate as guests in mtvU’s “Stand In” series. Each edition of the program features a guest professor teaching a class unique to their experience and background. Previous participants include Madonna, Kanye West, John Legend, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Russell Simmons, author Tom Wolfe, rapper Nas, Marilyn Manson, Snoop Dogg, Senator John McCain, and Sting.

A “South Park” behind-the-scenes documentary premieres on Sunday, October 2 at 10 p.m. and all-new episodes begin on Wednesday, October 5 at 10 p.m. on COMEDY CENTRAL. Fans can follow all of The Year of the Fan activities at SouthParkStudios.com. “South Park” launched on August 13, 1997 and is truly a global phenomenon with a devoted fan following worldwide and it remains one of the highest rated shows on terrestrial broadcasters around the world. The series is syndicated in more than 130 territories and translated into 30-plus languages.

To celebrate its 15th season, “South Park,” COMEDY CENTRAL and South Park Digital Studios will honor the fans that have turned the Emmy® and Peabody® Award-winning series into a cultural phenomenon with a year-long celebration, marking 2011 as "The Year of the Fan.”
