Fujifilm Installs Inca Onset S40 Wide Format UV Printer at its Kansas City Demonstration Center

”Best in Class” Quality and Performance with Low Cost Per Print

WEBWIRE

VALHALLA, NY, September 8, 2011 – FUJIFILM North America Corporation, Graphic Systems Division today announced the installation of the new Inca Onset S40 wide format UV inkjet printer at its Demonstration Center in Kansas City, Kansas.  The 6-color Onset S40, equipped with automation, is the latest addition to the Inca Onset range.

The Onset S40 with automation will produce 94 full-sized (63” x 123.6”) high-quality prints per hour.  This performance places the Onset S40 in the Inca Onset line of full-bed array printers between the Onset S70, the industry’s fastest flatbed capable of producing 160 beds per hour, and the Onset S20, capable of producing 68 beds per hour.  The Onset S40 has been engineered to provide outstanding “best-in-class” levels of quality and performance at a low cost per print.

The Onset S40 utilizes the new FUJIFILM Dimatix Sapphire QS-256 printheads, produced with the proprietary MEMS (Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems) manufacturing process.  The MEMS process results in a silicon nozzle plate with a very accurate (+/- 5 micron) drop tolerance compared to other competitive printheads at +/- 20 microns.  The Sapphire QS-256 printheads contain 256 inline nozzles, which is double the number used on the Onset S20 in the same physical space, allowing the Onset S40 to print faster without loss of image quality.

The Onset S40 is available in either 4-color CMYK, or 6-color with CMYK + Lc + Lm.  The Onset S40 has an optional ¾-automation system that can be purchased with the press or added later as an in-field upgrade.  The automation system includes three registration points for 1-up full bed 63” x 123.6” sheets or 3-up 40” x 60” sheets.  Automation increases productivity up to 50%, which results in continuous production of up to 94 full-size beds per hour, or 292 - 40” x 60” sheets per hour.

The Onset S40 is offered with a choice of RIP software including ColorGATE Production Server 6.  ColorGATE software offers one of the most flexible and highly productive software products for digital, centrally controlled high-end large-format printing.  Equipped with the latest RIP technology combined with the state-of-the-art professional color management, ColorGATE raises the bar in terms of reliable, flawless output and stable, efficient production workflows.

“We believe the Inca Onset S40 brings a combination of quality and speed to wide format inkjet that will truly change the market,” said Mitch Bode, vice president, Wide Format and Specialty Ink Systems, Graphic Systems Division, FUJIFILM North America.  “Now large quantities of wide format inkjet prints can be produced at the quality that offset printers demand.  Existing digital printers will be able to quickly produce large quantities of higher quality inkjet prints to more effectively respond to fast turnaround orders … it’s really a win-win.”

The Onset S40 has been through a rigorous beta testing process, including six months of production at Kolorcraft Professional Imaging in the United Kingdom.  Several U.S. customers attended demonstrations on Kolorcraft’s press, resulting in three initial sales to the U.S. market.  The first U.S. installation of the Onset S40 was completed in July, and two more installations are nearly complete.  An additional six presses have been sold and are pending installation over the next few months.

Fujifilm will demonstrate the Inca Onset S40 on their booth # 627 at Graph Expo 2011, September 11 – 14 at McCormick Place South, Chicago, IL, and will also demonstrate the press on their booth # 425 at the SGIA show, October 19 – 21, 2011 in New Orleans.
